Data Centres

At Concept Ceilings, we design and install structural suspended ceiling systems for data centres – environments where the ceiling does far more than define a space. In a live data centre, the ceiling is a critical building element. It carries load, manages airflow, provides access to services above, and must meet strict fire and compliance requirements, all without interrupting the operation below.

We work with main contractors, architects, consultants and data centre developers to deliver ceiling packages that are properly engineered, co-ordinated, and installed to the tolerance and programme demands that critical environment projects require.

We also have a direct supplier relationship with Tate Global Solutions and SAS international Group, working closely with both to ensure each project is completed to a high standard.

What Is a Structural Suspended Ceiling?

A structural suspended ceiling is a ceiling system designed to carry significant loads – beyond a standard suspended ceiling grid would be equipped to handle. In a data centre, that means supporting cable trays, containment, lighting systems, mechanical equipment, and in some cases walkway access platforms. All from a ceiling structure that must remain stable and level, including fully accessible throughout the life of the building.

Unlike conventional lay-in grid or MF ceiling systems, structural suspended ceilings are engineered to specific load requirements, with the grid, hanger, and fixing design calculated and verified to suit the demands of the space.

Why It Matters in Data Centres

Data centres place demands on ceiling systems that most building types do not. The ceiling void is one of the most service-dense environments in any building. Packed with power and data cabling, containment, cooling pipework, fire suppression systems, and lighting infrastructure. All of it needs to be supported, accessible, and to work together without compromise.

Fire rating performance must also not be comprised. Data centres house irreplaceable infrastructure and operate continuously, which means the ceiling system must meet the fire rating requirements of the space.

Getting the ceiling wrong in a data centre creates real risk: structural failure, failed inspections or costly remediation in an environment where every day of delay has commercial consequences. Getting it right from the start is the only approach that makes sense. Our team has handled and completed multiple projects within data centres, meaning we lead with knowledge and expertise to ensure efficient delivery.

How We Deliver It

Structural suspended ceilings in data centres require proper co-ordination with the structural engineer, M&E design team, and principal contractor before a single component goes on site. We work through the detail at pre-construction stage – reviewing load requirements, co-ordinating hanger and fixing positions with the structural above, and making sure the ceiling design is fully aligned with the M&E layout before installation begins.

On site, we work to the tolerance and programme discipline of the critical environment project. Data centre construction programmes are tight, sequencing is precise, and the consequences of overrunning cause impacts across the whole project. Concept Ceilings understands the imperativeness of smooth installations, and we manage our delivery accordingly.

What We Deliver:

  • Structural suspended ceiling systems designed and installed to specified load requirements
  • Full co-ordination with structural, M&E, and principal contractor teams at pre-construction stage
  • Fire-rated ceiling systems to meet the compliance requirements of the space
  • Access panel integration: planned and positioned to give maintenance teams the access they need without compromising the ceiling structure
  • Cable containment support and integration within the ceiling void
  • Installation in live or partially live environments where required
  • GC1 shell and core, structure and foundation & GC2 full fit-out, cabling and final commissioning
